Answer a Question and Win

How often do you read sophisticated picture books?  Answer the question to go in this month's prize draw.  Wrappers please note - this does not include sophisticated picture books you are reading to complete the 27 Challenge.  The question is asked to find out about your own reading choices rather than because you have to complete a reading task.

Complete the form to enter the prize draw (open to Kapiti District residents only). The winner will be drawn at the next Wrappers meeting on Friday 3rd October.

Hvngry Website

No, it's not a spelling mistake, the website is called Hvngry with a v.

In their words:
"HVNGRY is an online publication for teen girls (and boys) wanting more from mainstream media. It’s a belly full of inspiration, motivation, passion, power, and taking-over-the-world.
We’re here to feature amazing works, thoughts, creations, etc with a focus on lovely things like body positivity, intersectionality and openness."

Check out HVNGRY - it looks good and it's produced in NZ.  What do you think?

Performance Poetry Event

Are you interested in performance poetry?  Apparently it is gaining a big following among young people. On September 28 there will be a performance poet at the local Poetry to the People get together. It will be held at the Boundary Tap and Bar (you'll need to be accompanied by a parent if you're under 18) with an open mic session at 4 pm followed by the feature poet at 5 pm.

This month’s guest is Ben Fagan, a noted Wellington performance poet. Ben’s background includes stand-up comedy and a philosophy degree, making him, he claims, one of the most unemployable people you could meet. ‘Luckily I found performance poetry,’ he says. Exploring themes of identity, gender and society, he likes to play with comedy and poignancy. Ben is a TEDx performer and organiser, a Regional Slam Finalist and an organiser of Poetry in Motion Wellington. Ali Jacs, New Zealand National Poetry Slam Champion 2012, has this to say about Ben: ‘His conversational tone and understated performance style place him somewhere between a prophet and an everyday Kiwi bloke – a dangerously charming combination.’

Booksies

First there were selfies, now there are booksies. Sometimes we do judge a book by its cover, especially when deciding if they are any good for creating booksies.
