Oldies but Goodies

How old is the oldest book in Paraparaumu Library?  It's was gifted to the library, is called Sherlock's Sermons 3 and has a date inside - M.DCC.LV  (or 1755). Last month the Wrappers borrowed some of the older books in the teen collection, much more recent than 1755, but classics that are held in stack or continue to be reprinted.  Considering the challenge of reading something that might be outside their usual preferences nearly all of the books received positive reviews. The titles are linked to the catalogue below so you can reserve a copy to read for yourself.

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor

Old Yeller by Fred Gipson

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

The Cay by Theodore Taylor

Watership Down by Richard Adams

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

The Thirty Nine Steps by John Buchan

Animal Farm by George Orwell

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

The Wrappers Recommend

It seems as though the Wrappers enjoyed plenty of reading time over the summer break and there is a good list of recommended books this month. Some are library books, some are not. I've linked the books to the catalogue and changed the way I've done some of the links so hopefully they all work now.  Please let me (Carolyn) know if the links are not working.

Harry Potter series by J K Rowling (worth reading again!)

What We Left Behind by Robin Talley

Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer

Hush, Hush  by Becca Fitzpatrick (first in series of 4 books)

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket  (now also a Netflix series)

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

The Poison Throne by Celine Kiernan  (first book in the Moore Hawke trilogy)

The Industry of Souls by Martin Booth
