THE TESTING by Joelle Charbonneau
Do you possess a winning combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and raw intelligence?
Do you have what it takes to lead others?
Are you willing to crush those who stand in your way?
Every year, the United Commonwealth invites top graduates from each colony to participate in The Testing. Successful candidates will go onto The University and help the government rebuild our war stricken world.
This process is not optional.
Disclaimer: The United Commonwealth is not responsible for candidates' psychological and physical health during The Testing.
This is a dystopian-type novel that incorporates elements from both 'The Hunger Games' and 'Divergent' which I thought was pretty cool. While the first several chapters take a while to establish the story's background, I loved the way the plot was built up to include more action and thrills along the way - it got juicier and juicier until I was filled with suspense! If you enjoyed it as much as I did, you'll be pleased to know that there are two more books to follow.

Teen Postcard Exchange
The WRAPPERS have joined the Great Postcard Exchange. It was started by a librarian in the USA as a way to connect teens by exchanging postcards with brief book or library related messages. The teens at Paraparaumu Library each selected a library in the USA to send their postcard with a book recommendation. We look forward to receiving some postcards in return and finding out what teens in the USA like to read.

THE RITHMATIST by Brandon Sanderson
A killer is on the loose...
Joel is fascinated by the art of Rithmatics - with its lines of power and ability to bring chalk drawings to life - but only a few have the gift and he is not one of them. When Rithmatic students from Joel's school start disappearing, he is keen to investigate.
Since he's not a Rithmatist, Joel seems to be safe - but others are dying. Can he find the killer before the killer realizes just what a threat Joel really is?
From the very beginning, 'The Rithmatist' draws you in on a fast-paced adventure laced with mystery, action and intrigue. The style of writing, characters and plot call to mind J.K Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series, and makes this book a must-read for all fantasy and adventure lovers. For those doing the 27 Challenge - wink wink, nudge nudge - it has a blue cover....
